Employee feedback and change

Numerous factors need to be considered to implement any change in a given organization – having an active sponsor, managing resistance from employees, appropriate resource budgeting and allocation etc. One of those factors is also collecting employee feedback. After all, employee adoption is an important metric to measure success of a given transformation project.

While a channel or medium for employees to log their feedback or questions should always be included during various phases of a transformation project, we often forget the importance of creating a safe space, so employees feel empowered when giving input. This could be through a digital survey where staff (who will be affected by change) are given the option to submit anonymously (or with their full name if they choose to), an app, or good old suggestion box.

Giving a safe space for employees where concerns can be voiced without fear of retribution helps manage resistance and allows the employees to be honest while asking the tough questions. It is very likely, that some employees may think of and share ideas that were overlooked in the development of the initial change management strategy.

At the end of the day, if a change will be impacting the way an employee does their job, it is important to allow them a safe space to feel heard.
